Martha Speaks Reading Buddies
For the past three years, WFSU has implemented the Martha Speak Reading Buddy projects at elementary schools in Leon and Gadsden County. Over 500 students have participated!
Martha Speaks Reading Buddies program is an 8-week long program that pairs kindergarten students (Little Buddies) with older students (Big Buddies). Buddies visit with each other once a week to learn special new vocabulary words, play word games, watch a bit of Martha Speaks, read a book together, and then finally write about their experience. Research indicates that when children “buddy” up for learning wonderful things take place for both older and younger students!
Reading Buddies is part of the WFSU Raising Readers project and funded through a grant from the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation.
