Irving Bitterman died on July 21, 1991, leaving an estate worth more than $1 million. His surviving spouse and two sons disagreed over administration of the estate, resulting in appointment of an independent administrator. The administrator eventually resolved the issues, but a dispute then arose over the administrator's fees and attorneys' fees. The trial court ordered payment of fees it found reasonable, and the Fourth District Court affirmed. Review was taken to the Supreme Court.
