Booker was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death for the November 9, 1977, murder of 94-year-old Lorine Demoss Harmon in her Gainesville apartment. His sentence was affirmed on appeal. Later, the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals reversed his sentence due to errors in jury instructions in the penalty phase. He again was sentenced to death and appeals.
