Mr. Hunter was convicted of the first-degree murders of Erin Belanger, Roberto Gonzalez, Michelle Nathan, Anthony Vega, Jonathon Gleason and Francisco Ayo-Roman, who were fatally beaten with a baseball bat in 2004. The jury voted to recommend death sentences for four of the six murders, by margins of 10-2 in two cases and 9-3 in two cases. The jury also recommended life imprisonment for two murders. The trial court condemned Mr. Hunter as recommended by the jury. This Court upheld the death sentences on direct appeal and Mr. Hunter filed a postconviction challenge in trial court. It was denied and this appeal followed.
