In 2013, Mr. Franklin was convicted of the first-degree murder of Ruben Thomas, a
correctional officer, who was fatally beaten and stabbed in 2012. The jury voted 9-3 to
recommend a death sentence and Mr. Franklin was condemned to death. This is his
direct appeal.
