October is the American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Dog Month® and CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG is celebrating with "Clifford’s Mission: Paw-ssible" Week on October 9-13.

It's a week of themed episodes highlighting pet care and responsible pet ownership, plus the debut of a new CLIFFORD’S PUPPY DAYS episode on Wednesday, October 11th.

In addition, Scholastic Media has teamed up with the American Humane Association, and Clifford is now the official “spokesdog” for Adopt-A-Dog Month. American Humane is encouraging its member shelters and others to host "Adopt-A-Dog" events across the country throughout the month.

“There is a great need for people to go to a shelter and find their new best friend,” says Marie Belew Wheatley, American Humane Association president and CEO. “By adopting a dog from a local shelter this October, people are saving the lives of these precious animals and giving them much-needed and loving homes.”

According to a survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA), an increasing number of dog owners are citing “good for health/helps us live longer” and “walking, jogging and exercise” as top benefits of having dogs in their lives.

As many as 5.5 million dogs are euthanized every year in shelters across the country because there are not enough loving homes.

This is why American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month® was established. Celebrated every October, the tradition promotes dog adoptions from shelters and provides an opportunity to teach the public how to care for their pets responsibly.
