Are you the parent or caregiver of children ages 0-5? Navigating these early years can be pretty challenging! WFSU showcases many television programs that deal with these most important years. Therefore, we thought it appropriate to develop a series of workshops that focus on different aspects of the parent, as a caregiver, and your child’s growth… both of mind and body. This series of parenting workshops will be held in Gadsden County. For a list of dates, topics and times please see below. We hope to see you there!

Understanding Your Child’s Emotions for parents and caregivers of children 0-5

Play and Creativity

Do you believe that play is a child’s work? Many parents wonder at their children – why are they trying on my things? Why are they fidgeting and pretending? These activities and more:
Promote creativity
Provides an opportunity for social interaction & development plus an outlet for physical energy
Gives children a sense of being in control of their experiences and a sense of right & wrong
Helps children overcome fear
Provides opportunities for problem solving and critical thinking
This workshop helps to understand, facilitate and encourage fantasy play!
Language and Literacy – Storytelling

Why are stories important? Storytelling helps to build children’s language and literacy skills! This workshop helps parents and caregivers feel more comfortable in their role as storytellers and how easy it can be to incorporate story telling into their daily routines. When you share a story with a child you are:
Bonding!
Teaching and sharing something about the world, about yourself, about your values
Encouraging imagination, language development and increasing comprehension
Giving you a chance to read also!
Conflict Resolution

Tune into the any news station, eye any newspaper and it is clear to see that we are surrounded with conflicts. Fortunately, many of the conflicts that our children engage in can be skillfully navigated by thoughtful caregivers. This workshop will help parents and caregivers learn conflict resolution skills and strategies to resolve conflicts effectively. The goal is not to end conflicts, but to work through them in healthy ways! Strategies include:
Prevention and Re-directing
Letting your children vent to you
Validating feelings and helping children learn to verbalize
Help children learn visual cues and create their own solutions
Healthy Lifestyles

Creating a healthy environment is the best way to help nourish both the mind and body of your growing children. Routines, consistency, setting limits and creating healthy meals are all part of creating a nurturing environment. This workshop will help parents and caregivers learn some recipes for success in providing some of these important skills and strategies to create a healthy lifestyle.
