New Media Activities
For Children and Parents
New Media Activity Type Description
FacePlace Web Site PBS Kids Go! FacePlace is a free online site that gives children the chance to learn while engaging in entertaining activities starring their favorite PBS characters.

Keeping children's natural curiosity about the adult world in mind, PBS Kids Go! FacePlace begins by giving children the opportunity to choose a face to head their "profile" page, similar to popular social networking sites. Several learning activities are provided including the Word Girl Excercise Your Lexicon antonym matching game, Wishbone's Scene Detective where users can tell stories, Ruffman's Activities, and more! Users can decorate their pages upon completion of the learning activities.

Sid
Sid the Science Kid App available on iTunes
iPhone, iPod Touch App

Hey scientists! Now you can have a microphone just like Sid the Science Kid!

In each episode of Sid the Science Kid, the popular preschool television series airing daily on PBS KIDS, Sid uses his trusty toy microphone to share his questions and ideas. Now all of Sid's friends at home can do the same in real life with the help of this easy-to-use iPhone app. The app is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch and is available FREE through iTunes!

This simple, on screen app allows kids to record their own voices or other sounds, for up to 20 seconds, and then play them back. Even the youngest kids can interact with the buttons to make laughs, applause and animal sounds.

The app can help kids identify the qualities and sources of sound and experimenting with sounds that are quiet or loud, changing the pitch of their voice, or recording things of various distances to see how that sounds.
