How long has that horn been sitting in the closet?...It’s not like you ever stopped loving music.  You have wonderful memories of playing in marching band or jazz band in high school and maybe in college, but you graduated and drifted away from your hobby.  You have a full time job, and maybe a family, and it’s not like there is a big band out there consisting of community members who want to get together and play for fun, is there?

Well, in fact, there is.

Thursday Night Music Club gets together on- you guessed it- Thursday nights to have fun playing jazz and big band standards.  In addition to these rehearsals, they play regular gigs around Tallahassee.  They are a non-profit community band who, when slots become available, accept proficient musicians who can read music and don’t mind being challenged musically.  The members see it as a great way to blow off some steam after a long week of work and do something expressive with their time off.

Since the groups beginning in 2006, a core group of 6 members has slowly formed to run the administrative and musical decisions for the band. As far as the rest of the 20 members, the band's had many talented musicians join them along the way. Because Thursday Night Music Club is community-based, and is so large, the band likes to say it's in a constant state of "flux"; slots regularly become available as job and home obligations keep people from being able to come out every week.  If you are interested in learning more about the group, visit their web site: www.thursdaynightmusicclub.com.
