Established in 1975, the Florida Public Radio Network is the oldest public radio network in the United States. Its mission is to provide public radio listeners with in-depth coverage of the Florida Legislature, state government and issues that affect the state. FPRN serves thirteen public radio stations across the state. Each week these stations provide public radio services to over one million listeners and these stations span Florida from Pensacola to Miami, leaving virtually no Floridian out of reach of the FPRN signal.
Florida Public Radio's producers and reporters provide a wide variety of programming. During the Legislative Session, the FPRN staff produce a nightly half hour news program on the daily activities of the Florida Legislature. Capital Report provides quality produced reports that include interviews with legislators and state leaders, news conferences and excerpts from debates on the House and Senate floors and within committees. The program, broadcast at 6:30pm ET, gives public radio listeners all across the state up-to-the-minute coverage of the day in the legislature. It provides more detail than any commercial television newscast and more than twelve hours in advance of the morning newspaper. When the Legislature is not in session, the Florida Public Radio staff produces a weekly version of Capital Report. The program expands its scope of coverage to include reports on statewide issues including the economy, tourism, transportation, the environment, education, science and arts, as well as, state government.
Florida on the Line, FPRN's monthly statewide call-in, is broadcast each second Wednesday at 7pm ET. Florida on the Line gives listeners across the state an opportunity to talk and ask questions directly to state law and policy maker including the Governor and Cabinet members. Individual segments are also produced to provide news features for stations local newscast and newsmagazines. Each weekday, a fifteen minute FTP feed is sent to public radio stations across the state. The feed is filled with stories collected by FPRN reporters as well as contributions from the affiliate stations.
From time to time, the reporters at Florida Public Radio Network produce special programming. Additionally, Florida Public Radio brings you live coverage of gubernatorial inaugurations, the Governor's state of the state address, political debates, and other important events.
