In February 2009, WFSU ceased analog broadcasts of its television signals and began broadcasting in digital.

High Definition Television
Digital television allows WFSU/WFSG to broadcast programs in much higher resolution or clarity than analog television. This is called High Definition Television or HDTV. Viewers can receive high-quality, crystal-clear pictures. These visually stunning pictures, with more than four times the resolution and clarity of standard television, will be displayed in a wide screen format with a 16w by 9h (ratio) rectangular, or 14 x 9 when upconverting from analog, compared with today's 4 x 3 format. And because HDTV is digital, audiences will have the benefit of six-channel CD-quality "surround sound." In other words, you will be able to enjoy a true home theater experience.

WFSU's current HD digital broadcast can be received on channel 32 (Tallahassee) and channel 38 (Panama City) with digital receivers. WFSU broadcasts in HD from 6pm to 6am daily. Check your local cable company for digital cable assignments.

Multicasting
When not transmitting in HDTV, WFSU/WFSG DTV transmits multiple Standard Definition Television (SDTV) programs over a single television channel simultaneously. This is called multicasting. Although SDTV does not match HDTV in quality, it will offer a higher quality picture than traditional analog television. Multicasting allows WFSU/WFSG to multiply the number of program offerings to audiences, both at home and in schools.

WFSU multicasts from 6am to 6pm daily. WFSU's multicasts can be received on channel 32 (1-4) in Tallahassee and channel 38 (1-4) in Panama City. Currently SDTV channels are designated as: WFSUDT-1: WFSU, WFSUDT-2: The Florida Channel, WFSUDT-3: Primetime WFSU Repeat, WFSUDT-4: The Florida Knowledge Network (DOE).
